HEART

20 06 2012

If you watched the recent running of the 24 hours of Le Mans, you’ll definitely notice the race had a fair share of carnage.  But often times, it’s the hours spent off the track behind the scenes which are truly inspirational.

Nissan debuted their new Deltawing race car which was proving to be a strong class contender, maintaining a strong pace with great fuel efficiency.  Unfortunately, while a Toyota car was making a pass deep into a turn, it clipped the Deltwing sending it into the grass where it hit a wall.  Le Mans rules do not allow the car to be towed to the pits, or for any crew to work on the vehicle.  The result is in the video below.  The drive, Satoshi Motoyama, worked tirelessly for over 2 hours with only pliers and a screwdriver to try and get the car up and running again.  Ultimately, he had to admit defeat, but the video paints a clear testimony of the hearts of these men. Literally risking their lives every time they strap themselves in, and fighting to the very end for a shot at victory.  Cheers Motoyama-san for your efforts!
