Red Tails

10 01 2012

I grew up obsessed with everything military.  Looks like a pretty good movie if you’re into history and action.  Nothing’s difficult, everything’s a challenge.

The Dark Knight Rises

19 12 2011

I’m pretty excited by this sequel.  The newer and darker Batman series these past few years has been the best version of the character I’ve seen.  Summer 2012!

HANNA

4 12 2011

I remember seeing the preview of this movie and wanting to watch it when it came out, but as usual, my travel schedule picked up and I lost track of things.  I had a rare night at home last night, and for some reason the movie popped into my head so I decided to watch it.  I honestly think this movie has been slept on.  I remember critics giving it poor reviews while it was in the theater…this movie once again reaffirms my decision that I don’t trust so called critics.  Ok sure, it doesn’t have Academy Award level acting, and it doesn’t feature mind blowing special effects, but the story and the action was enough to keep me thoroughly entertained for almost 2 hours.  At the end of the day, isn’t that what we’re all looking for anyway?  But yea, if you like the lay low for years, and come back for revenge type flick with some good twists, check out Hanna.

Favorite line from the movie:  Adapt or die.

Puss In Boots

7 11 2011

Yes, I know what you’re probably thinking.  Seriously?..Puss & Boots?  Going into it, I wasn’t sure how I felt about this new spin off of the character from Shrek.  But, honestly, I was pleasantly surprised by the movie.  It was both witty, and entertaining almost every scene of the movie.  It actually reminded me a lot of the first Shrek. lots of humor for the adults, and just enough kid stuff to keep the younger ones entertained as well.  Yes, believe it or not, I’m giving Puss & Boots two thumbs up!

ps – It didn’t hurt that the movie screening was part of a VIP Paramount Studios event, complete with breakfast and complimentary snacks and drinks!

Perception

A pretty cool behind the scenes look at how the zero gravity hotel fight scene was filmed in the movie Inception.

Kung Fu Panda 2

31 05 2011

Memorial weekend just isn’t complete without watching a summer movie.  While I’m sure many people opted to go with The Hangover 2, Yuri and I along with Freddie and Kevin from Autofashion decided to check out a private screening of Kung Fu Panda 2 in 3D at Paramount Studios instead.  I loved the first Kung Fu Panda, and the second one definitely didn’t disappoint.  I love when film makers are able to entertain kids while balancing enough adult humor to keep people of all ages entertained.  If you enjoy the occasional animated comedy, I’d recommend checking out Kung Fu Panda 2.  Try to catch the movie in 3D if you like that kind of thing, I want to say at least 50% or more of the film was 3D.  I can’t wait for the Kung Fu Panda 3 already!

IP Man

25 01 2011

I watched this movie a few weeks ago but haven’t had a chance to post about it.  I had heard some great reviews regarding the film, but just kept forgetting to rent it.  Honestly, I wish I watched this movie sooner, and I can’t wait to watch IP Man 2 which is already out on DVD as well.  If you like action films, and especially martial arts movies, I’d highly recommend this flick.  The film is loosely based off the true story of Ip, who is the legendary teacher of Bruce Lee.  Two thumbs up for this one, I’d definitely watch it again!

True Grit

25 12 2010

I went to check out True Grit last Wednesday on the Paramount Studios lot, I meant to post a review earlier in the week but I’ve just been lazy to get around to it.  The movie was a remake of an older John Wayne film, and this version had some hype surrounding it due to the cast and the fact that it was a Coen brother flick.  There was some decent action in the right scenes, and I actually kind of appreciated the slow scenes of the film…in a sense, it kept the western feel of the movie intact.  I definitely think Jeff Bridges’ character and Matt Damon’s character made the movie.  Gotta love LeBeef.  I’d only check out the film if you like old school western flicks.

TRON

20 12 2010

Southern California just hasn’t been itself lately.  We’ve had heavy rain for almost a full week, leaving many of us feeling like we’re in the middle of Seattle.  Friday and Saturday we’re pretty hectic, so some friends and I decided to take an easy Sunday, get out of the rain, and catch a movie.  TRON just debuted, so we decided to check it out.  The IMAX showing we had planned to watch was sold out, so we opted for the next standard 3D viewing of the movie.  I can’t even remember the last movie I had to line up for.  I have to admit, I was a little hyped because I had heard the CG was done pretty well.  I haven’t seen the first TRON, so I didn’t know what to expect from the plot.  The movie started off at a decent pace with some nice action here and there.  The graphics, as anticipated, were pretty cool but the movie started to lose me about half way through.  All in all…I’d have to say, in hindsight, I wouldn’t have minded waiting to watch this movie on DVD.  It’s neither super good, or super bad…just 2 hours of semi entertainment out of the rain.
