MOTION ’12

MOTION just released their official flyer today complete with show date and registration details.  If you haven’t had a chance to check out this event and your local to Southern California, I’d definitely make it a point to stop by.  MOTION is probably one of, if not THE only traditional sport compact show left in the scene.  What makes it unique is the fact that it actually has multiple vendors and manufacturers in attendance displaying new products and answering questions…the only other place you can really do this is SEMA.  The dates are out, so you have no excuses!

2012 RSR

Undressed and getting ready for shakedown just a week ago.  Hopefully the mighty Teal & Blue of the Falken Tire ALMS team will be able to slay some giants once again this year.

Initial reports from the drivers is that this car is FAST compared to the 2011 RSR.  We’ll have to wait and see just how fast the new gen RSR is once all the vehicle settings have been dialed in.  I <3 race season.

Above is some of the final minutes of Mid Ohio last weekend.  True testimony to the driving prowess, and rain tire technology of Falken Tire!  Amazing driving!

Giant KILLER

If you haven’t seen or heard, this past weekend marked the first victory for the Team Falken ALMS Porsche team at Mid Ohio.  This is a huge victory!  Falken has been battling against companies such as Dunlop and Michelin, who have had years of experience and seemingly endless budgets, and that’s just the tire manufacturer side.  Falken also competes directly against the Corvettes, who have roughly 50+ factory engineers present at each race to calibrate settings.  With chassis tuning, tire development and internal team management changes, the Falken ALMS team definitely has had it’s work cut out for them.  That being said, this past weekend, they proved the impossible was in fact possible.  Despite being the guppy in a pond full of sharks, Falken rose victorious!  Who doesn’t like cheering for the underdogs?  Go Team Falken!

Dubbed, the Lion’s Den, this is a behind the scenes picture of the Falken race rig lounge where drivers and team managers go to both relax and strategize.  On the right is Wolf Henzler, nobody does it better.  Truly, a P-Car monster!

Final prep, and run downs.  Bryan Sellers is in this picture, great sense  of humor, but all business when strapped in.

Severe rain conditions meant tires, and race strategy would play even bigger factors.  When all was said and done, the teal and green 997 GT3RSR was number 1.

Literally, history in the making.  Cheers to all my friends in the ALMS department.  May this be the first of many victories!

MONSTER!

In case you’re wondering who that guy is, that’s Monster Tajima of Pike’s Peak fame.  He’s the current record holder for Pike’s Peak, and has been for a number of years.  Every year the times at Pike’s Peak get quicker  because the mountain pass is slowly getting paved more and more year after year.  But to me, Monster will always be the true record holder since his record was set when a majority of the track was still dirt.  I was fortunate enough to meet Monster last year at Pike’s Peak.  He’s a bear of a man, and very humble.  Cheers to Monster and the gang as they gear up to attack Pike’s Peak this year!
